Today is a huge day here at Rainboots & Retail, today marks the one year mark since I started this blog! I am in shock at how far I’ve come, from new branding, to many new site appearances. I am so incredibly proud of where I am with my blog, and I’m so glad that a year ago today I had the crazy idea to post my thoughts and outfits online. As you might have noticed for the past couple of days I haven’t had anything to share with you, mainly because I’ve been packing for our cruise this weekend, but also because I’ve been working on this post! Thinking back on how much this site has evolved and how many wonderful people I’ve met literally blows my mind. I have made connections with some awesome fellow bloggers and boutique owners, and I am so thankful for all of the opportunities this blog has brought me.
A year ago today I was laying in bed, bored, and running out of people to Facebook stalk. I found someone’s fashion blog on Pinterest and decided that it was something that I was definitely interested in. Being a fashion major, I’m always experimenting with my wardrobe and studying the latest trends; why not put it to good use? I started as East Coast Chic, and a few months later, transformed my site to Rainboots & Retail. Within this year of blogging, I have learned so much about the fashion world, and expanded my fashion taste to brands and styles that I never thought I would like.
I have to give a special shout out to my wonderful boyfriend. In the beginning of this blogging adventure I used my cell phone for pictures. I downloaded a self-timer app and set my phone up on random objects and ledges outside. The pictures were awful quality, but at the time it was all I had. A few weeks into the blogging world, my dad gave me one of his old cameras, it worked okay for what I needed, and worked a little bit better once I bought a tripod, but still not the most impressive photos ever. It wasn’t until I transformed into Rainboots & Retail in October when I worked up enough courage to ask Klein to take my photos for me. I always thought posing for blog photos was awkward (I still do) and I don’t like to pose where there’s a lot of people around. I will admit, our first photoshoot was seriously awkward. Here we are, seven months later, and Klein and I have finally mastered the 10 minute photoshoot! I updated my camera to a Canon t3i Eos rebel, and he has perfected the aperture (to the best my camera will handle it, I need a new lens) setting and lighting! Without Klein, my blog photos would not happen and I would not have the support that I have. He always allows me time and space when I’m working on a post, and always helps me check my mail, style my outfits, etc. Overall, he is the support system that a girl could only dream of, so I could not have a one year blog-iversary post without mentioning him!
Enough of the sappy stuff and back to my goals for the next year, as I prepare for year number two in the blogging world, I hope to open up to many more readers daily and monthly, and I hope to continue working with some other great shops and brands. Nothing gives me satisfaction like helping small shops and businesses, as well as large ones too. I would like to set an Instagram follower goal of 30,000 (I’m halfway there now), and I’d like to increase each social media following by around 5,000 followers! More important then stats and followers, I hope to continue meeting amazing bloggers and non-bloggers alike. Some of my greatest friends are in the blogging world, because it is such a genuine connection. I hope to surround myself by amazing blogging ladies in the very near future, because the blogging world is one amazing community!
I’d also like to thank my readers, my family, and my friends who support me every single day while I do what I love. This blog wouldn’t be anything without you guys! So happy one year blog-iversary to Rainboots & Retail! Cheers and I hope you enjoyed all of these photoshoot bloopers!
