Yes you heard right ladies and gentlemen, a Nike Factory store has opened up in my college town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Yesterday morning I had the absolute honor of covering the grand opening event as media! This was such an amazing opportunity for Rainboots and Retail, and come to find out, I was the only fashion blogger there! I had the pleasure of interviewing Zoe Krislock, VP GM of Nike factory stores, and photographing Amari Cooper, former Alabama football player, cut the ribbon. All of these wonderful pictures are taken my boyfriend, Klein, who doubles as an amazing photographer! Oh and my dress is from Azalea Terrace Boutique!
So in case you’re not from Alabama or live in Tuscaloosa and for some reason have never been to Midtown Village, this is where the new Nike store is located. It’s right across the street from Soca and right next door to Jos. A. Banks. When Klein and I pulled up at 9:25 (media check in was at 9:30, doors opened at 10) the line was wrapped so far down Midtown Village that it was almost to my apartment complex. It was a huge turnout for the store and the wait was well worth it. Most items in the store were listed at 50% off, they had a DJ playing music all morning, and all of the new employees were incredibly helpful and nice!
Former Alabama wide receiver and current Oakland Raiders wide receiver, Amari Cooper, made his grand appearance to cut the ribbon for the opening of the store. “Nike and Alabama have huge ties, and Alabama football is a huge part of why we decided to put a store here,” according to GM of Nike factory stores Zoe Krislock, so what better way to celebrate the opening with one of the most legendary Alabama players himself?
The first 200 people in the store received free Nike headphones and a $10 gift card to shop, luckily, Klein and I made it in the door just in time to snag a pair! And yes I used the gift card that day.
I did some shopping myself, I bought four items which would have totaled at over $200 if they were full price, but I bought them for just $86! The new work out program that Klein and I are doing has made me realize that I lack in the workout clothes area, but now I’m pretty well stocked.
The wonderful, charming, and super sweet Zoe Krislock, it was such an honor to meet and speak with her! Since interviewing her was just for a blog post and not a newspaper article, I didn’t have too many questions. First of all, I wanted to know what the difference was between a factory store and an outlet store. Come to find out, they’re the same thing! So then my obvious next question was why Tuscaloosa? Since the tornado hit three years ago, the town has slowly been rebuilding, but never did we think we’d get something as great as a Nike outlet. Krislock quickly responded that the relationship that Nike and Alabama football have is enough to open a store here. It was so great to learn a little insight about the new store, and to be able to attend the grand opening was a huge honor! If you’re out of town for the summer, or just haven’t had a chance to make it to the store, be sure to check out the Nike factory store at Midtown Village as soon as possible!
